CASE STUDY 1:

OVERGROWN CAMPUS

CHALLENGES: OVERCROWDED CAMPUS PARKING + UNHAPPY COMMUTERS

The telecommunications company is a dense multi-building campus situated between a residential zone and a business commercial shopping center. By 2014, they had long reached their on-site parking capacity for their ~4,500 employees commuting daily to their campus, and the roadways linking their campus to the Interstate had become heavily congested, largely due to their employee commuting habits. Their second campus was located 15 miles away with an additional ~1,500 employees and similar traffic and parking constraints.

Following an RFP process in October of 2014, TransWest was selected to create a full-service shuttle program across both campuses and to assist with on-site parking. TransWest was further retained in 2016 and 2017 to help expand our parking solutions and to deploy a regional park-and-ride service to their growing commute demands.

MORE TO COME

In 2017, the large telecommunications company also selected TransWest as their nation-wide partner to support expansion of shuttle and off-site parking services to their offices outside of Washington beginning in 2018.

THE TRANSWEST SOLUTION

  • Created and managed a Shuttle Program supporting both Campuses
  • Deployed Valet Parking and Traffic Ambassador services at both campuses
  • Deployed On-demand, Team Event Shuttle service
  • Created access to six park and ride locations around the Puget Sound Area, adding 1,350 parking spaces
  • Outfitted service with Luum Mobile Data Terminals and RFID badge scanners
  • Built and deployed a custom Seat Reservation platform
  • Embedded a Program Manager

OUTCOMES

  • Changed the commuting habits of as many as 1,000 daily riders, equivalent to $12M in annual employee productivity
  • Added nearly 15% increased capacity of on-site parking capacity from existing campus infrastructure.
  • Increased capacity for 1,350 employees to park off-site
  • Increased employee satisfaction as measured by QBR feedback and surveys

CASE STUDY 2:

MOVING HEADQUARTERS

CHALLENGES: OVERCROWDED CAMPUS PARKING + UNHAPPY COMMUTERS

This large retailer announced in June 2015 it was scouting for a new headquarters after spending the last 30 years in one location. While waiting for design and construction they leased an office building in Bellevue, WA focused on the recruiting of tech engineers. Once the building opened in September of 2015, they engaged TransWest to build an inter-campus shuttle program.

THE TRANSWEST SOLUTION

  • Facilitated the implementation of the Guaranteed Ride Home Program supported by Uber.
  • Outfitted all shuttles with WiFi, seat back trays and bike racks
  • Setup custom application for vehicle tracking and ETAs
  • Consulted and participated in transportation fairs

OUTCOMES

  • Achieved 95% occupancy on shuttles during peak transit hours
  • Increased productivity resulting in $2.5 million in value over single occupancy commutes
  • Attained REI’s desired carbon neutral business status by reducing traffic load by 225 cars per day
  • Increased employee satisfaction as measured by QBR feedback and surveys

CASE STUDY 3:

TWO CAMPUSES

CHALLENGE: LAST-MILE / FIRST-MILE SERVICE + INTERCAMPUS TRANSFERS

TransWest started working with this large technology company in 2016 at one of their offices, and already have expanded the program three times. Our initial scope was to help provide off-site parking while they did construction on their current offices — TransWest ran a shuttle loop and procured the off-site parking.

In the next phase, they went to bid and retained TransWest to manage and operate a campus loop starting in 2017. We expanded in the summer to include a last-mile connection with the rail Transit system, to allow employees to commute to their offices via light rail.

MORE TO COME

We are starting this Fall another expansion to do an intercampus shuttle loop connecting their two offices, which allows developer teams to connect with business teams between the two sites.

THE TRANSWEST SOLUTION

  • Temporary off-site parking solution with shuttle service during campus construction
  • Deployed and now operating a intercampus Daily Service loop
  • Expanded to include Last/First-mile service to the Link Station
  • Expanded service to include intercampus between two offices
  • Added Transit Screens in their campus buildings to provide real-time shuttle locations at stops

OUTCOMES

  • Increased campus access from major transportation hubs
  • Connected their three office building, reducing walk/drive time
  • Multiple successful transportation fairs
  • Increased employee satisfaction as measured by internal surveys
